Gmina Culture Center in Krynki. Theatre play entitled "Ku pamięci..." based on texts by Slawomir Mrozek, directed by
J. Kozlowski (2001 r.) "Saturday Meetings with Art" - a project carried out in the years 2001 and 2002. (It was awarded the President of Bialystok City Prize in 2001). Pupils from the local Public Junior High School in Krynki participated in this undertaking, which lasted for a whole year. Some of the pupils were chosen as a result of their outstanding achievements and talents while some due to social reasons. The latter group came from the poorest families, where parents cannot afford to buy their children books or to take them to the theatre. Throughout the whole year when the "Saturday Meetings with Art" were in progress, the participants saw numerous performances at the Bialystok Puppet Theatre, the Theatre Academy, the Aleksander Wegierko Drama Theatre; attended music concerts at the Bialystok Philharmonic, and the Bialystok Department of the Warsaw Music Academy. Moreover, they visited exhibitions in the Arsenal Gallery and the Podlaskie Museum as well as participated in meetings with actors, artists and exhibition authors. The Theatre Academy organized a meeting with professor Wieslaw Jurkowski who conducted classes on theatre mask, took the children on a tour around the School Theatre and showed the school archives. At the Music Academy, professor Jolanta Chlebowicz-Dylag organized special concerts for the "Saturday Meetings", those were connected with music lessons devoted to music of the Romantic Period. Once a month pupils were taking part in a 3-hour art module led by a sculptor, Malgorzata Niedzielko. Similarly, theatre classes were conducted in Krynki under a supervision of a theatre director, Janusz Kozlowski. Project ended with an exhibition of works created in the course of workshops conducted by Malgorzata Niedzielko, and with staging a theatre performance based on works of Slawomir Mrozek directed by Janusz Kozlowski .The works as well as the play were presented at the Gmina Cultural Center in Krynki. "Workshops on contemporary art for teachers of Polish and Art in rural schools" - a 30-hour series of workshops and lectures devoted to different genres of fine arts: sculpture, painting, artistic weaving, performance and video art. All classes were conducted by renowned artists with significant educational background. The workshops were even more important in light of the reform of the educational system, in result of which most of the Art teachers are musicians by profession. Furthermore, in small village schools art is often taught by teachers who need the hours to fill the weekly hour limit, thus the workshops were attended by teachers of physics, IT, biology and geography. "Summer Art Workshops" were
an 11-day meetings organized in August 2000 - a prize in competition announced
by the local daily - Kurier Poranny and "Droga" Association,
managed by Father Edward Konkol. The idea behind the "Summer Workshops"
was to promote art as a way of life and spending one's free time. The
project aimed at creating conditions for development of a creative activity
of the participants, who were students from the junior high schools in
gminas (communes) of Zabludow and Krynki. They were selected by the Gmina
Centers for Social Aid and came from poor yet not pathological families.
The project was of an assisting character. We aimed at reaching young
people whose living conditions were harsh but who were not demoralized,
though threatened by certain pathologies. In course of the workshops,
the students participated in art and theatre classes, visited the historical
attractions of Bialystok (the Branicki Palace and its gardens, church
of St. Roch, the Bialystok cathedral, the Museum of History and the Military
museum, the Alfons Karny Sculpture Museum), and the surroundings (the
synagogue in Tykocin, the monastery complex in Suprasl, the palace in
Choroszcz, Orthodox church in Hajnowka and the Bialowieza National Park).
