MIELESZKI
In the summer of 2005, we organized a photo exhibition on the fences of a border village, Mieleszki. The project was authored by Pawe? Grze?, a student of the Warsaw Technical University and Faculty of Photography in the Czech Opava. He took portraits of all people in the village and hang them up on the fences along the village. The location was chosen based on emotional links with the area: Byelorussians living in Poland. The author has roots in the community and his mother was raised in this village. Today, Mieleszki is losing its population as young people are moving to the city.
The photos were also exhibited in Hungary and at the Warsaw Technical University. The local government sponsored their publication in the ?gMieleszki?h album. However, they were most powerful when shown along the wooden fences of the village where the object and the presentation of it were one.
The opening of the exhibition was a real feast for the village, like in the good old days when there were young people living here. There was a dancing party and locally brewed alcohol.
